Day 26 - Dragon Bay and Night Survey

Steph, Poppy and I headed out at 9am to get the bus from Rose Hill to Sateurs, we then got a bus to dragon bay. It was really pretty. We went to snorkel with the underwater sculpture garden. We swam out over a reef and saw loads of sea urchins and various species of fish and corals. we made our way around the headland to the sculpture garden. I saw a few cuttlefish and species of parrot fish; wrasse and tangs. Kate is going to lend me a guide so I can learn some of the species here. We saw a few people diving which made me really want to dive, and a couple people doing SNUBA which is scuba snorkelling where you’re diving but with a tube to the surface and the air tank in a float on the surface, it’s for people not qualified and I’m not sure how safe it looked but it was cool to see.  All my photos are on my waterproof camera so I can’t upload them yet. I didn’t see all the sculptures but the ones I did see were pretty creepy, circles of people holding hands. It was like the scene in the 2nd task of the triwizard tournament. Like dead people under water. But it was still cool 🙂. After we got out the water Steph and I collected sea glass and then had Fried Chicken and Chips with a ting for lunch.

We got back to the house It was 17:30, we waited for dinner which Rachael and Helen cooked. They made a veg pasta bake with garlic bread and salad. Unfortunately they didn’t check what was communal and what was personal items in the kitchen. Steph has told them everything in the fruit bowl is personal and I’d bought an avocado and waited all week for it to ripen and I was looking forward to avocado and egg for breakfast today, they’ve only just come into season so I haven’t had one whilst here yet but they cut it up into tiny pieces and put it in their salad and put dressing all over it 🙁 normally we leave our salads undressed and put dressing on the table as people like different things and I don’t like dressing so I bad barely any salad and I tried fishing out my avocado but I only got 3 tiny cubes, not happy. I’m going to go back to writing my name in sharpie on everything again like I had been before. My poor avocado 🥑

After dinner Poppy, Tom and I went out on Night Survey, Marina wasn’t feeling well so didn’t join us and we Picked up Sharka. I went on the first run with Tom and Poppy went with Sharka. It was Sharkas birthday 🎂 he’s 25. Poppy and Sharka saw 2 nesting females, I saw one of hers returning to the sea and then 3 nest hatches. In the morning we raked and measured the distances for the nests.
