Day 16 - Beach and Nest Excavation

I had a lie in this morning before getting up and starting the 7th book. I read for a bit and then Poppy, Talitha and I went to Bathway. I packed my snorkel hoping to go for a swim but the sea was really rough and there are huge rocks just out to sea there so I read under the shade of a beach umbrella. We then all got ‘hurricane’ ice creams from a food vendor at the back of the beach, which were a mix of vanilla, choc and strawberry. It started to get a bit grey so we decided to head back to the house. I had lunch, I was hoping to have some of my left overs from dinner I made last night but they’d been eaten by someone else!

At 3pm Tom, Poppy and I headed to Levera to carry out some nest excavations. It was as always a tiring and smelly afternoon! Kate joined us whilst we were digging and overall We excavated 4 nests which was our goal 😊. There’s been a huge bloom and wash up of Sargassum at the moment! Which makes it hard for hatchlings to reach the sea, they also become easier prey when stuck in it. When Tom was digging his nest he found 4 live hatchlings making their way to the top of the sand, but he thinks he dug up a close by nest that wasn’t ready for excavation! So we took them for release tonight and filled in the nest:

For dinner Mandy and Talitha made a pumpkin macaroni cheese dish with coleslaw and cucumber. After dinner Tom, Talitha, Mandy and I played Bananagrams which was fun, I’m going to read a bit before bed now 🙂.
