Day 33 - Bathway and Excavation

Today I went to Bathway beach in the morning for a swim with Steph, Marina, Rachael and Tom. I had Chicken and Chips for lunch down there before heading back to the house early afternoon. I then had Excavation at 14:30. A lady called Tara and her Husband Rich joined Marina, Rachael, Tom, Kate and I. They’ve been here 3 months, have taken early retirement and are volunteering in different countries travelling to find their ‘forever home’. Tara and I paired up and we set about digging up nests we had marked out. Tara and I actually found our two the easiest and fastest I’ve ever found nests, we even found the sticks. After a successful excavation we in total as a group excavated 5 nests. When we got back I showered and waited for dinner.

Steph and Helen made a Thai Green curry with aubergine and green beans with rice, flatbreads and soy sauce fried veg.

Greece! Archelon Rescue Centre - Arrival and Day 1

Yesterday Adam and I arrived in Greece at around 15:00 local time. It's 2 hours ahead here. The flight went quite quickly, Adam slept most of the way and I coloured my under the sea colouring book :) Once we arrived we got a taxi to the rescue centre where we met the current volunteers and had a quick tour of the centre. Shortly after we arrived another new volunteer named Amy also arrived. At 18:00ish we left the rescue centre and took the tram to the volunteer apartment which we are staying in. There are 2 rooms, each with 4 bunk beds so lots of room although there are now 9 volunteers, 2 people stay at the rescue centre each night, we all have to do this twice a week. Once we had settled and dropped our stuff of f we went to a local supermarket to buy food for lunch and then Niels, Zonne, Amy, Lewis, Adam and I went out to a local restuarant for called Pitta Bar for dinner. Christmas on Ascension

Christmas on Ascension: Christmas festivities on Ascension started the first week of December when the Georgetown Christmas Decorations appeared in the main square.  Carols at the residency On 07/12/22 We attended the first of the Ascension Christmas Traditions, the first celebrations of the Christmas festivities; the Christmas carols at the residency (the house of the administrator), which is located just under halfway up green mountain. Anna and I had spent the day clearing pierhead beach of weeds for the turtle season and then returned home after work to get ready for the carols. Ed picked us and Chrisna up around 17:00 and we headed to two boats for the minibus shuttle up the mountain. When we arrived at the residency we were greeted with mulled wine and eggnog as well as an open bar! The carols started at around 19:00 with a food break in the middle. March 2024 Maldives

March has been a very busy month and again has absolutely flown by! This month we released one of our turtles back into the wild! Adam visited me at the beginning of March, and I did lots of snorkelling with hawksbill turtles and black tip reef sharks!  Here are some of the highlights of my March in the Maldives.  On the 1st March I was just at the end of giving a turtle presentation to our volunteers when some women came to the centre and asked if any of us would be free to be taken on a Tour by their sons who are part of the local scout group. They were doing their tour guide badge! We said yes (Me and Volunteers David and Lina) and met them at the Harbour to begin our tour. First we had to fill out their notebooks with information of where we were from, they then told us about how you can get to the island by boat and by plane, how to get to the airport and how far away it is.
