Day 24 - Swim Club and Night Survey

Yesterday I got up at 8am for 9am Grenada Swim week to help out as an instructor at bathway swim club. We had two sets of children, one at 9am and one at half 10. They were all beginners so we started at level one which was getting them to blow bubbles, hold their breath submerged for 5 seconds, float on back for 5 seconds, kick ten yards with a float and Bob 3 times. In the first session I was instructing a little boy called Dayne, apparently he’s autistic and he was terrified of the water. It took him a few minutes to agree to hold my hand and walk ankle deep into the sea. Eventually with two noodles tied around him and a float to hold onto and both my hands he eventually came waist deep. I managed to get him to crouch and blow bubbles and hold his breathe but that was as much as we managed to do. In the second session I had two girls called Martha and Kadine who I managed to pass both for their level ones so they got badges and today I’m hoping to get them their level 2 badges.

In the afternoon I played with two of Kate’s hand reared goats outside the house for most of the time before dinner. Poppy and Rachael made roasted veg and cous cous with salad. Kester cut down some fresh coconuts for us to drink. I then went on Night Survey. Steph, Marina and I picked up Steve and Sharka on the way. Sharka, Steph and Marina went on the first run. Steve and I didn’t see any turtles until our run at 4am when we saw a female nesting.
