Day 61 - Last Excavation shift

Yesterday I woke up at 5:10am to get ready for excavation but it was raining really heavily so we said we’d go at 7:30 instead so I went back to bed and got up at 7am. It was still raining so I read my book be had breakfast. Kester came up to remove the data cabinet from the house as pack down of the project for year begins. Steph made yummy peanut butter oat cookies and I read for most of the morning. At 14:30 Steph, Tom and I headed to Levera to do our final excavation shift, we had 4 of Kate’s temperature loggers to retrieve from the sand and wanted to dig 9 nests to take the total % of nests excavated to 30%. We started at markers E-F and managed to find 2 nests, one with a marker but one measurement didn’t match up. The logger ya I -J must be lost as the beach has eroded away there and we couldn’t find one of the loggers at N-O I was digging it for probably an hour and then we all took turns and we had a huge trench but still nothing. We did fine 7 more nests though, including another logger so overall we found 2 out of 4 temperature loggers and 9 nests in total so out total excavation % is 30% which is 3 times the goal amount of 10% the project has, it was also double the number of nests they excavated last year! It was my last work shift on the project and my last time on Levera! We didn’t get back to the house until nearly 7pm, I sweeper the car, had a shower and then made dinner. I made a veg curry but the rice was a bit too salty but the curry was nice. I then cleaned up and finished my book after dinner.
