Day 50- Chill and Pizza

Yesterday was a chilled day, we were meant to go on excavation but it got rained off, the weather wasn’t great on and off all day so I didn’t leave the house. Plus everything’s closed on Sundays anyway. No buses etc. I spent the day reading 😊 I had avocado, egg and cheese of toast for lunch.


In the evening Steph, Kate, Marina and I went to Sateurs to order pizza for dinner because Tom wasn’t back from Carriacou in time to make dinner because of a miss communication with his ride back. It’s half price pizzas on Wednesday and sundays so we all ordered an extra big one to have left overs for lunch 😊. I got vegetable and olives toppings for mine and had a local juice whilst we waited for our pizzas to be ready. Once they were cooked we brought them back to the house to eat. 🍕 it was very yummy.

March has been a very busy month and again has absolutely flown by! This month we released one of our turtles back into the wild! Adam visited me at the beginning of March, and I did lots of snorkelling with hawksbill turtles and black tip reef sharks!  Here are some of the highlights of my March in the Maldives.  On the 1st March I was just at the end of giving a turtle presentation to our volunteers when some women came to the centre and asked if any of us would be free to be taken on a Tour by their sons who are part of the local scout group. They were doing their tour guide badge! We said yes (Me and Volunteers David and Lina) and met them at the Harbour to begin our tour. First we had to fill out their notebooks with information of where we were from, they then told us about how you can get to the island by boat and by plane, how to get to the airport and how far away it is. June Highlights, Ascension Island 2023

As per usual the month of June absolutely flew by! With the 5th July marking 8 months since arriving on Ascension.  My view whilst typing up this blog!  June brought about the end of the turtle season, our last day monitoring tracks and nests and our last nest excavation. On the morning of the 6th June whilst carrying out a nest and track survey, Anna and I saw a manta ray swimming in the shallows of Clarence Bay (Long Beach) and it was one of the most magical experiences, I could have watched it swimming the entire day.  On the 14th June Dee held a Conservation Law meeting where she went through the relevant documents for conservation law on Ascension, I was really interested but unfortunately a lot of it was too confusing for me to understand, I find the way law is written quite inaccessible unless you’ve studied law.  Outside of work we started a girls volleyball group and have been doing weekly sessions on the US base; which is something I’d never don...

FSC Millport Week 17, 18 & 19

Whilst lockdown is easing around the UK things on the Island are pretty much the same. The last couple of weeks I've been helping Luke with his dissertation data collection, weeding, completing office jobs and enjoying cycling in the Nice weather. The Jellyfish in Luke's samples seem to be getting bigger!  Rosie left on the 1st June to go back home to Switzerland as her Placement has ended so now It leaves Luke and I in Ravenscraig as Placement students.  Beth had her 21st at the end of May and Luke turned 21 on the 5th June! I made him a Pokemon giant nutella cookie, we had a large fry up for breakfast and take away for dinner.            A couple of weeks ago we had another BBQ in the nice weather and went for a swim from the Pier (very cold water!)           Recently we have had baking tasks for work over the weekends, last week I was the judge for Brownies, I gave a recipe and video instructions on how to make them and...
