Greece Day 3 & 4
More busy days at the rescue centre!
Day 3 - Yesterday Adam was on tube feed most of the morning, he helped Niels prepare the fish for the turtles that needed tube feed. Tube feeding is done when the turtles are too weak to eat and so have to be fed blended fish by a tube. It can sometimes be stressful for the turtles but it is necessary for their wellbeing sometimes. I got the tram to the rescue centre with the others and met Adam and Niels in the morning. I spent most of the day cleaning tanks and turtles, washing towels and feeding of turtles. It was Adams night for PM shift which meant he had to stay at the RC with Zonne. I decided to stay at the RC with them and help out with the PM shifts. This included taking temperature of the tanks, preparing fish for tube feed for the next day, cleaning more towels, finishing feeding and washing any dirty buckets etc. We also had to make sure all the tanks inflows were on. Later in the evening everyone apart from Floretine and Mathilde came back to the RC and we ordered Zahoulios for dinner. Adam and I had Halloumi roasted with peppers, chicken kebab in pita, cheesey chips between us. We then sung Karaoke all together before heading to bed and the others went back to the apartment.
Day 4 - Today Adam and I got up early to do AM tasks, we took the temperatures of the tanks, checked all the turtles were still alive and noted down their behaviours. I filled the chlorine bowl and Adam prepared tube feed. I then cleaned out Odessius with Flo who was in a big tank, I was also shown how to do his treatment for his amputated flipper wound. I then cleaned 4 other tanks and Adam did a two tube feeds. One of the turtles with a really bad head injury had to be put to sleep which was really sad but apparently they couldnt even see his brain anymore. On Saturdays there is no feeding so we managed to get most of the tasks done before 3pm. We finished early and Niels, Amy, Adam, Lewis and I went to the beach next to the RC for the afternoon. Niels and Lewis left and then Amy, Adam and I made a sand turtle. After a swim and building sand turtle we headed back to the RC to collect our things and then got the Tram back to the apartment, making a detour to a shop for snacks on the way. We met with Niels and Lewis outside the flat and realised we were locked out. Lewis and Adam went to go to the RC to get a Key when Flo was on her way back. She arrived with the Key and let us in while Lewis and Adam got the tram back. Once we were back we showered and made dinner. I cooked linguine with a tomato based sauce with aubergine, yellow pepper, mushroom, olives and Halloumi and extra grated emmental on top :). After dinner we sat and chatted together before bed.
