Greece Day 20, Day off 21 and Day 22

Monday was lots of cleaning tanks and turtles again. I was entrusted by Mike to clean Kosmos, the green turtle we have here. Green turtles aren't actually green, they get their name from their green fat because they eat sea grass in the wild, but Kosmos was actualyl green from all the alage on his shell and flippers, I think people thought he was meant to be green so hadn't cleaned him properly. Mike asked me to clean him so he would look like a turtle again so I scrubbed his carapace, head and slippers carefully with his toothbrush, sponge and a scrubber until he looked like a turtle again and Mike was very pleased ๐Ÿ˜Š

I was on PA for the afternoon, so was in charge of the shop and tours. Eve and Erini took all of the barnacles off of the New turtle who was picked up the day before called Zoe. She has a head injury and an injury to her carapace. The barnacles were hugeee, and when they were removed you could see the live barnacle from underneath which was pretty cool. In the afternoon whilst I was on PM Eve, Amy, Megan, Stijn, Zonne and Niels went with Mike and Erini to release Christos and Sotiris! Christos had been here for 4 years with a head injury and Sotiris had been here for 2 years with a severe carapace injury so it was a big moment for the rescue centre for them to be released!

In the evening I made Veggie Pasta sauce for dinner with aubergines, Orange peppers, Courgette, Mushroom, Green Olives, black olives and Halloumi as well as grated cheese. It was very yummy.

On Tuesday Adam and I had our day off, We went SCUBA diving! We went to the bakery for breakfast and then took a tram and the metro into Athens to Nautilus diving centre and were kitted up ready for our dives. We booked a double discover SCUBA dive which would allow Adam to dive in the sea without a full qualification, Our instructor was called Vasillis and gave us a briefing before we left the shop, explaning the equipment to Adam. We then packed up the van and drove about 30 mins away which was actually back past the rescue centre and Glyfada to a cove near where we went to release the turtles. Our first dive was 40 minutes and our Max depth was 8m. Adam was given some excercises to do like clear his mask and take out/put in his regulator underwater etc. We also saw an Octopus and a cuttlefish as well as lots of different fish which were really cool :) And I finally saw an Octopus so I was very happy! The instructor was happy with Adam's buoyancy and so after a 45 minute break between dives we went for a second dive to 12m for 40 minutes. The visability was okay, about 12m. It was smiliar to diving in the UK, but nice to be in a wetsuit rather than a drysuit, much more movement. After our second dive we packed up the van and went back to the dive shop. Afterwards we took the metro into Athens and went for a nice meal near Ancient Agora and the Flea Market. Adam had Chicken Souvlaki and Olives and I had Feta fried with seasame seeds and Honey and Fried Courgette. It was a very yummy meal. We then went for Ice cream, Adam had a bubble waffle with Chocolate sauce and Bueno Ice cream, topped with biscuit. I had a cinnamon and Sugar Chimney cake with chocolate sauce and Bueno Ice cream topped with biscuit. We then went for a walk around the market again before getting the metro and tram back to the apartment.

Today I helped Marina take Foxy to Mike and then cleaned and chlorinated the tank Sotiris had been in before his release. Adam and Stijn cleaned Polykasti and her tank as well as doing her head injury treatment, they then cleaned Elise (tank and turtle). Adam then also cleaned Ares and helped with tube feed for Elise. I chopped up the fish for feeding and did some of the feeding rounds. We managed to get finished on turtle tasks by lunch time and just had PM tasks after that. We were finished about 4pm and I helped Megan defrost fish for filleting for tube feed. Adam and I then went to the mini market for some food for breakfast and dinner as we are staying at the RC for the next 3 nights.
