ATHENS! Day 8 and RC Day 9

Yesteday Adam and I had our first day off, and we decided to spent it like proper tourists :) We spent the whole day in Athens and went to 6 of the 7 ancient ruin sites on the Athens Combined ticket! It was a very busy and tiring day. We started by getting the tram towards the Acropolis and a half hour walk until we got there. We got our tickets and looked around the Acropolis and Slopes where we saw the Parthenon,  The Sanctuary of Dionysus Eleuthereus with the theatre of Dionysus on the south Slope, odeion of pericles, cave of aglauros on the east, the erecthion, theatre of Herod Atticus etc. There were so many tourists! And those not british were clearly not well reheresed in queuing! We eventually made it to the top to see the Parthenon and took a few photos before heading back round the slopes and down where we saw some tortoises roaming around and Adam got a frozen lemonade to cool down. We ate our lunch on the walk to the next site.

After the Parthenon we headed to Roman Agora and Ancient Agora which were below the Acropolis - it took as a while longer than it should have to find them as the signposting doesn't seem to be very explicit here but once we made it to the Ancient Agora we had a really good view of the parthenon (probably better than being right up close), We prefered Ancient Agora, it was probably my favourite site of the 6 we visited, it had lots of trees and green like gardens with temples and ruins throughout. After walking around the Agora we got ice cream in a waffer bowl, (Happy Hippo and Caprice flavour!) we walked around the flea market a bit and then we walked to Hadrian's Library and then Kermameikos. Kermameikos was also really nice to walk around, with lots of trees along with the ruins, there was also a museum here for us to look around. Whilst we were walking around the ground we saw many tortoises, and even a chase! One tortoise was chasing another really fast! We watched for a while thinking it was a male and female but it became apparant that the smaller tortoise was trying to bite the bigger tortoise's head! After watching for about 10 minutes we decided to seperate them to try and stop the bullying, the poor larger tortoise had bites all over his face. As we left Kermameikos we got a cold drink each and then got the Metro to Acropoli to walk to Olympieon where we got to walk around as the sun was getting low which was very pretty.

We then crossed the road and walked around the National Gardens and visited the 'pond of turtles' as we had seen on the map all day and wanted to visit. We found the small round pond with lots of terrapins sunbathing which was very cute! We also saw the duck pond and played pokemon around the gardens.

We then got the Metro to near the Agora because I was really hungry and treated we ourselves to dinner in an authentic Greek Restuarant, sat outside on the street with a view of the Parthenon in the background which was really lovely. We had a starter of Saganaki cheese before chicken gyros and souvlaki with cocktails. We then went souvenir shopping around the athens flea market/tourist market streets in the area before meeting up with Lewis, Callum, Makayla, Niels and two part time volunteers at 21:00 as they wanted to go for Sushi in Athens but I was too hungry to wait. The first sushi bar was full but we found another one and Adam had Inside out sushi with shrimp, cucumber and avocado and I had Prawn Dumplings (gyoza) which were very yummy.

After our very long and tiring day the others got a taxi back to the apartment but seeing as there wasnt enough space for us and we had 24 hour tickets for public transport in Athens, Adam and I got the Metro and then Tram back to the apartment. We did a lotttt of walking! But it was worth it :) We had a really lovely day and fell straight asleeep when we got back!

All of my photos are on my DSLR Camera which I haven't uploaded yet so I can't attach them so I'll attach the photos Adam took on his phone throughout the day.

Today were back to the RC! Our morning was similar to most, cleaning turtles and tanks, treatment and feeding. Adam and I did the treatment for Hermes head injury with Dil.Bet and Honey. In the afternoon I did a lot of feeding, tube feeding, washing and cleaning tanks. Adam was on PA for the afternoon which means Public Awareness, he was stationed in the Shop to sell merchandise to tourists and gave tours to people who wanted them. We're both staying at the RC tonight with Flo so after finishing duties earlier Adam had left over sauce with Pasta and I had boiled eggs and Cheesey Pita for dinner :)
