Day 3
Today I got back from the night survey at about 7am. We got about 3ish hours sleep out on the beach but I didn’t feel too tired once I got back so Poppy, Talitha and I decided to go to Grenville which is a slightly larger town than the one we went to yesterday, but a little further. Kate and Kester were driving in that direction to get food so we tagged along for a lift to town. I bought some more snacks :) and we had a look around the fruit and veg markets and spice stalls which was really cool.
The last few days the weather has been humid and hot but quite grey, whereas today it was clear blue skys! 🌞
We spent a couple of hours out and about before getting the bus back. That was an experience and a half! The buses here are like small mini buses that should fit under 15 people but every time someone got on chairs were unfolded in between seats to fit people on! Every time someone needed to get off, half the bus got off and then got back on to let them off. The bus drivers also drive incredibly fast! Speeding up and then a sudden halt at a speed bump and speeding up between them even if there Wasn’t much space. The bus driver kindly agreed to drop us off at the parish community centre which is a shorter walk away from our house. We made friends with a few goats on the way 🐐.
Once we made it back the others went for a nap so I did some reading before dinner. I also had a meeting with the project lead and supervisors about my dissertation data collection and now feel a lot better about the data I’m collecting so hopefully it will all go to plan! At 4pm we then had excavation training which was a presentation about how we excavate nests that have hatched to determine hatching success, nest predation and disease etc. I have my first excavation on Thursday so that will be really interesting!
After the training I finished my 2nd book and begun the 3rd before helping Tom lay the table and wash some dishes. He cooked spaghetti with tomato and veg sauce and Bean Balls (instead of meatballs) which were baked balls of 3 kinds of beans mashed together. Again very yummy food!
After dinner I did the washing up before a tad more reading and card games with Mandy 😊 now I’m off to bed! Tomorrow we’re going to a local school to deliver a lesson on pollution which I’m really looking forward too.
