Day 15 - Relax

Image
Once we got back from the night survey I had a shower but was too awake to try and sleep anymore so I stayed up and read my book. Nearly at the end of book 6 now. I spent the day reading, writing up notes in my field notebook and writing up data tables. It was nice to just chill and catch up on some note making I needed to do. I’m now up to date with my data and have a few extra drawn out. I didn’t leave the house or do much else. It was my job to cook dinner today/ I was planning on making egg fried rice as we’d had loads of eggs all week but everyone seemed to use them all today for omelettes and boiled eggs and baking brownies and there were none left! But Tom went and got some in the evening just before I cooked so I didn’t have to change my plan. Poppy, Talitha, Kate and Kester went to do an Excavation while Mandy made brownies before I started on dinner. Steph helped me prepare the veg and then left me to it. I made egg fried rice with shredded carrots, chopped green beans and

Day 14 - Fishermen’s Birthday Celebration

Yesterday, Steph, Mandy, Poppy, Talitha and I headed off at about 11am. We got the bus from Rose Hill to Sateurs and then another to Gouyave which is the next town after Victoria. Tom went with the swim club to a competition on the other side of the island. We met a little boy at the bus stop in Rose  hill called Cameron who started talking to us saying he missed his 11am bus and we told him we were going to Gouyave and he said he was going there as well to a pool and his sister was there. So he came along with us. When we got to Gouyave we asked someone if there was a pool and they said there wasn’t, we then realised the boy was meant to be going to the competition but didn’t know where it was and because he’s seen some of us at swim club he thought that’s where we were going. We had to phone Kate and put him on a bus back to Rose Hill. There was music and street food, pe

This morning I was up at 5am with Poppy to head out on a morning survey on bathway beach. We walked the length of the beach to check for any turtle tracks or nest evidence. We found one set of what could’ve been tracks but they weren’t very clear. It poured with rain on us and when we got back I was actually cold for the first time since getting here! I had to make myself a cup of tea (how very British). We got back and I read for a bit and had toast for breakfast. At half 9 Kester came to pick up Poppy to go to Sateurs to do the food shop, Talitha and I tagged along so we could get a ride to buy biscuits, chocolate and other snacks 😊. Once we were done and had returned to the house we helped Poppy unpack the shopping. We had wanted to do a hike today but the weather wasn’t great so we decided against it. Poppy, Talitha and I then walked back to rose hill to the bus stop with Tom where we got the bus to  Sateurs, we left Tom their and got on another bus to Victoria. When we got ther
