Week 7 - FSC Millport
Everything got a bit crazy this week, in light of Covid-19 my placement duties are changing slightly and disapointingly the centre has no groups in for the foreseeable future which is a shame. I'm glad I got to help out with one group though. The centre's boat still evades me though!
I had monday off whilst Maisie was here and once she left spent the afternoon deep cleaning the flat.
On Tuesday I was back in the office and the mood was very different to what it had been on Friday when I left and things had been pretty normal. It's like everything went from 0-1000 over the weekend. I spent Tuesday making resources for the muesum such as different information posters, boards, gluing displays down, organising where things are displayed etc. I also put away all the waterproofs and wellies the primary school used last week and remade some signs for the store sections. In the afternoon I washed all the kit we used and put it away in the kitstore. We also participated in a recruitment activity. The centre was looking to hire freelance tutors for our summer busy periods (not sure if thats going ahead now) but we took part in some of the activities the interviewee led.
On Wednesday we began emptying the Aquarium in case of a sudden centre closer annoucement, seeing as no one will be coming to visit the animals are better off in the sea and it also means no one has to go in for feeds etc.
Thursday Rosie and I continued emptying the Aquarium and created a list of tasks we could complete from home if needed as pretty much everyone else at the centre that can do work from home now is.
On Friday Luke, Rosie and I carried on updating our weather trees, we've started painting some new ones along the same wall to continue them. A weather tree is basically where each branch has a month and each day of the month is represented by a leaf which is colour coded to a key about the average temperature to show how the weather has changed over the months and years. Our first tree is from 2018 but we are shifting all of the trees along to make space for some more. Rosie, Luke and I have each drawn and started painting a tree each to add to the 2 already there.
In the evening I went across to Largs to to a food shop and Adam arrived to spend the weekend as did Calvin (Jenny's boyfriend) and Angus (Christina's boyfriend).
On Saturday Adam and I went back to Largs to take his car to Kwikfit to check a warning light that had appeared. We had fish and chips for lunch before returning to the Island. In the afternoon Rosie, Luke, Adam and I went for a walk to the peak which was a nice afternoon out.
That evening we all had a games night together, a few beers, mario kart, Dopple, Heads up, Super Smash Bros etc with Christina, Angus, Jenny, Calvin, Luke, Rosie, Adam and I which was good fun :)
On Sunday the weather was lovely. Adam and I hired some bikes from in town and cycled around the island. We took a picnic and sat on some benches overlooking the beach which was a really nice day. The cycle around the Island is just over 10 miles so we took our time and spotted some wildlife around the way, lots of different birds like Buzzards, Oyster Catchers, Plover, Curlew, Shags etc. we also saw some Seals but no Kylie! Adam left sunday evening to head back to Loch Lomond.
