Week 12 - FSC Millport
This week I started two online courses, one on managing behaviour for STEM learning and one on teaching primary science which have been quite interesting. We also finished painting the tables blue at the centre and completed fire alarm checks at the beginning of the week.
On Tuesday we joined a meeting with the FSC Eco business director who assigned us Fundraising reports to write. Mine is on how the FSC can increase long term donations through a Membership Scheme and I have enjoyed researching and writing that most of the week. I also started an online course Promoting Ocean Literacy and project based learning.
We have contiued to make a little more progress in the garden cutting down the brambles as well! The weather has been lovely this week though and its a bit dangerous trying to deal with the brambles in short sleeves!
Its been quite a nice week, the weather has been lovely and we've had a few new tasks to get on with. Wednesday was World Earth Day, celebrating all things mother nature! On Thursday we were invited to join a Non Furlough Meeting for staff in the North area and one of the tutors from Millport (Jack) hosted Rocky Shore ecology fieldwork live to over 15,000 students which is pretty cool. You can watch the recorded version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vfaf0UHaoU&t=34s

On Friday was the beginning of the City Nature Challenge 2020. This is an initiative to get as many people involved with nature as possible. I took part in 2018 in Plymouth and went rockpooling but this year it is still happening but obviously advising people not to go against government guidelines. There is loads of wildlife we can see in our gardens and on daily exercise walks etc.
The aim of the project is to upload photos of as many different species as possible to an App called inaturalist so if you haven't heard of it then its a fun challenge to get involve with and you don't need any expertise at all! I took lots of photos for the challenge on a bike ride around the Island this weekend but also lots of photos of different plants in our garden here.
Friday Night I put out the Moth trap at the centre to see what moths we could get for the city nature challenge which I'd never done before. Its a large box with egg boxes inside for the moths to hide in and panels to stop the moths escaping. A UV light on top attracts the moths in. Then on Saturday morning I went and checked what we had got, put them into pots and in a cool dark place before releasing them in the evening.
On Saturday I went for another cycle around the island, we also found a place on the Island that does take away Pizza and so had Pizza on the beach before making our own Rum punch at the flat and dancing to Soca music!
Sunday I did lots of jobs around the flat like clean the bathroom, shampooed my bedroom carpet and baked cornflour brownies!
