Week 10 - FSC Millport

This week we began the immense task of gardening here at Ravenscraig! It's going to take months and months to finish the whole job, the back garden is like a mini wild forest but we've started with the parts other people can see which is the front garden. There is a colossal amount of brambles out the front that have grown and dominate the front garden plots. We've been at it for a week and made quite good headway with it but there is still a long way to go!

On Tuesday Luke and I did some litter picking around the FSC Millport Site and I started an online Ecology and Wildlife conservation course which has been interesting.

On Wednesday I also started an Aquatic Mammal online course as well, Keeping busy! Most of this week has been similar office jobs and being out in the garden when the weather is nice cutting down the brambles.

We have been for our daily walks mostly to Kames and Newton bay further round in town and have seen loads of Seals! One day there were about 7 of them all together really close to the edge of the water.

We've been experiencing really high hightides and really low low tides this week due to the Super moon on the 8th April causing a larger gravitational pull on the oceans which has made it really good for rockpooling. On Tuesday we went for our walk at 6pm to go and check out the rockpools and we saw some cool stuff including a pair of butterfish, lots of kelp, starfish and a blue-rayed limpet which are very pretty.

I've also written a blog post article for the FSC Millport Blog which you can find here:

And the blog will be updated every friday with a different article written by myself or one of the other placement students, and every monday I will be writing a summary of the 30 min eco activities I have been posting on the FSC Millport Social media pages so they will all be in one place.

The water has also been nice and calm and we have been on a walk and seen Kylie the common dolphin as well which has been nice! I'm still waiting to see Porpoise and Scottish Otters though. Lately there have been lots of Gannets which is really cool, they're magnificent birds to see flying around and diving into the sea.

This weekend has been pretty relaxed and quiet. I spent most of Saturday in the front garden reading on the grass and on Sunday we each made a small easter scavenger hunt around Ravenscraig. Each of us made around 8 clues/riddles and hid them around the garden and house with little eggs. That amused us for a couple of hours yesterday! We've been keeping up with our exercise and enjoying the nice weather we've been having. On Saturday, Rosie, Luke and made homemade pizza which was delicious!
