FSC Millport - Week 15 & 16

Image
The past two weeks have gone by quite quickly! I have been helping Luke with his Data collection for his Dissertation. As he can't use the boat to drag his net collecting microplastics anymore he was trialing two different methods. One where we cycled to the shore and dragged nets ourselves by walking knee depth in the water and the other suspending the net from the Pier.

Week 14 - FSC Millport

This week has entailed lots more weeding! We've made a lot of progress at the centre but we still have a long way to go, the car park is taking quite a long time because the weeds are between the gaps of the tiles and slabs which is taking a while for us to clear but its looking really good in the areas we have done. I have also watched a few webinars this week, one of the Galapagos islands, one on Mollusc and Bryozoan identification, one on Echinoderms and Tunicate Identification and another on Sea Turtle Research.  If you've missed any of the Eco blog posts I've been doing for the FSC you can find them here:  https://wildmillportfsc.wordpress.com/blog/  Theres also an option to follow the blog on the right hand side like there is with this one if you fancy! The weather has been on and off this week, some days have been beautiful sunshine and we have taken advantage by cycling around the island, other days a bit more grey and very windy.

Week 13 - FSC Millport

This week we spent most of our time weeding around the centre, its a big job and is probably going to take us a longgg time to finish! There's not much else to report on really because we spent most mornings and afternoons tidying up the edges of the grass areas and pulling up all the weeds. We've still got a lot more to go though. I've also watched a few interesting webinars on how plastic is affecting our rivers by NHM London and Porifera and Cnidarians by SeaSearch Divers. I finished my report on how Fundraising through membership schemes can be improved and benefit the FSC as the current membership needs some improvement, we had a meeting about this on Tuesday with the New Eco Business Director of the FSC who seemed to be happy with what we had all produced which was good. On Saturday I had a chilled day and caught up on some TV I had been meaning to watch, I was very tired from all the weeding all week, I baked some shortbreads which were yummy!
