My Last week on Ascension!

Image
Last week on Ascension! On Saturday evening (30th September) Lorna had a games evening and drinks around a fire for her birthday celebrations. We played Scrawl which is a drawing version of Chinese whispers where you’re given a phrase to draw then the next person has to write what they see, then the next person draws the new phrase, and this is repeated until it returns to the original drawer. It was a very funny game. We then sat outside Haye’s in their garden where they have a fire pit area and had a few drinks whilst we looked at the Stars, Tobias was showing Anna and I his new stargazing book which teaches you about the visible features on the moon which was really cool. At around 22:15 Anna and I decided we were going to head to long beach to stargaze for a little while before heading to bed. September has absolutely flown by! This month Georgia started her Youth Trainee placement, we welcomed Cerys from St Helena as one of the new Marine placements, I helped Phil with sewing a new Fog catcher for restoration sites, Anna and I were entrusted with independently carrying out the Frigate Colony population monitoring for Colonies E, C & M during a Letterbox Day (11th Sept) whilst Laura was off Island, and I earned my first green at Kung Fu (28th Sept). We also went to see the new Indiana Jones film at the US base free open-air screening and went as a group to see the Barbie movie at the Travellers Hill Cinema on the RAF base at the beginning of the month. This month also marked my last week of being on Sea Rescue Call as I handed in my radio for good on the 16th September. This month I have also been working on trying to finish up my last few Letterbox walks to complete my stamp collection. On the 3rd September, Anna and I completed Devils Cauldron to start off my

August also saw us take over the Ascension MPA social media channels whilst Lorna was on Leave, so any posts on the Ascension MPA Twitter, Facebook and Instagram from the end of July and all of August until the 4th September have been by Anna and I. At the beginning of August, we also discovered that on Monday’s and Wednesdays the Tennis courts on the US base are open to anyone to play, so we’ve started playing twice a week and it’s been really fun, especially as we haven’t been playing any volleyball lately as American Emily is also away on leave (we aren’t allowed on the courts without her). I also went to see the Little Mermaid at the cinema with Abi this month and have spent time hammocking on th
